Electric Skyline has announced the appointment of Marian Deasy as its first Safety Ambassador, marking a powerful step in the company's ongoing commitment to ensuring that every employee returns home safely.
The announcement coincides with the beginning of CIF Construction Safety Week, a fitting time to focus on the importance of safety awareness and behavioural responsibility across the construction and electrical sectors.
Marian's appointment forms a central part of Electric Skyline's forthcoming Live for Lorcan Safety Initiative, which will officially launch on Friday the 21st of November at the McWilliam Park Hotel in Claremorris, Co. Mayo. The initiative honours the memory of Marian's son, Lorcan Deasy, who tragically lost his life in a workplace accident in 2018. His story continues to inspire a renewed focus on the human side of safety and the importance of making the right choices in every moment.
Speaking about her new role, Marian said she hopes that sharing her family's experience will help others see safety in a more personal light: "When you lose someone you love to a workplace accident, your world changes forever. My hope is that by sharing Lorcan’s story, others will stop and think before taking a shortcut or a risk. If one person pauses and makes a safer choice because of this campaign, then it has already made a difference."
Electric Skyline Managing Director Sean Corcoran said the idea for the initiative was born following a talk Marian gave to the company last year: "When Marian spoke to our team, she left a profound impact on everyone in the room. You could feel the emotion, the honesty and the reality of what safety truly means. We knew we had to harness that feeling and integrate it into our everyday work. Appointing Marian as our Safety Ambassador is about making safety real and human. Rules and systems are essential, but they only work when people believe in them. The Live for Lorcan initiative will help us build that belief, reminding every member of our team why safety matters and who it protects. Our deepest hope is that this initiative saves lives we’ll never know we’ve saved."
Although Electric Skyline already maintains robust health and safety procedures, the company recognises that workplace accidents often stem from human behaviour. The Live for Lorcan initiative aims to address underlying behavioural and psychological factors such as complacency, routine familiarity and the common belief that "it will not happen to me" through education, storytelling and culture change.
Fiona Kemski, Electric Skyline's Group HSQE Manager, said the campaign focuses on how emotional connection can drive lasting behavioural change: "Health and safety procedures are critical, and we take great pride in the systems we already have in place. But we are always striving to do more when it comes to keeping people safe, and this initiative is exactly that. What makes Live for Lorcan different is the emotional impact behind it. When someone truly believes in why safety matters, their actions follow naturally."
She added that the initiative is designed to reach beyond Electric Skyline and inspire change throughout the wider industry: "Through Live for Lorcan, we want our people to recognise that safety is not about enforcing rules for their own sake, but about safeguarding ourselves, our families, and our colleagues. We do not want this to stop with Electric Skyline. Our hope is that other companies and their leadership teams will adopt this initiative and roll it out to their own employees. If this message can inspire even one other organisation to think differently about safety, then Lorcan's legacy will continue to make a real difference."
As part of the initiative, a dedicated Live for Lorcan symbol is being developed. This will serve as a powerful visual trigger that connects every employee to Lorcan’s story and reminds them of the importance of safety in every task they undertake. The symbol will appear across workwear, vehicles and safety materials as a constant reminder of Electric Skyline's core safety philosophy: Everyone home safe, every day.
The official launch on Friday the 21st of November will mark the next stage of Electric Skyline's safety journey, celebrating Marian’s appointment as Safety Ambassador and unveiling the Live for Lorcan message to employees, partners and stakeholders.
