Galway City Council and the Land Development Agency (LDA) have secured planning permission for 219 social and cost-rental apartments at Dyke Road, on the edge of Galway city centre.

The approval, granted by An Coimisiún Pleanála, allows construction of the first phase of the Corrib Causeway (Tóchar na Coiribe) development, transforming 1.87 hectares of council-owned land into a mixed-use neighbourhood.

The development will include 109 one-bedroom, 100 two-bedroom, and 10 three-bedroom apartments, ranging in height from five to nine storeys. Plans also feature a crèche, car and bicycle parking, communal open spaces, playgrounds, and new landscaping along Dyke Road. Future phases of the project will introduce commercial, civic, and cultural facilities, as well as improved walking and cycling connections to Terryland Forest Park and Galway Shopping Centre.

With planning permission in place, the project is moving into detailed design and procurement, with construction expected to start in 2027. The Dyke Road development forms part of the LDA's broader programme in Galway, which includes 345 homes at Crown Square, a submitted planning application for 356 homes at Amharc Atalia, Galway Port, and a long-term plan for up to 750 affordable and social homes around Sandy Road.
