Northern Ireland-based Apex Housing Association has confirmed the appointment of Liam Hannaway as its new Chairperson, following the departure of Peter Caldwell, who has stepped down after several years of service to the organisation.
Liam brings extensive experience from his career in the public sector and community development. He has held senior positions within the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and local government. Before retiring in 2019, he served as Chief Executive of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, and has long been involved in community-focused initiatives across the region.
Peter Caldwell, who joined the Apex Board many years ago and became Chairperson in 2021, made a significant contribution during his tenure. He served across a number of board committees and officer roles, helping to guide Apex's growth and maintain its focus on delivering quality housing and community services.
Sheena McCallion, Chief Executive of Apex, said: "We are delighted to welcome Liam to the role of Chairperson and know that his knowledge, skills and experience will be invaluable as we continue to grow and respond to the evolving needs of our tenants, residents and communities. Liam’s deep understanding of housing and local government, combined with his commitment to community development, make him the perfect leader to build on Apex's strong foundations and shape its future with vision."
Sheena added: "I'd also like to pay tribute to Peter Caldwell for his exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to Apex over many years. Peter has played a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the organisation, always bringing wisdom, integrity and a deep understanding of our mission. His contribution across various committees and his steady guidance as Chairperson have left a lasting legacy, and we are deeply grateful for his service."
