The Ennis Public Realm Works are set to reach a significant milestone at the end of November as the main construction phase of the project concludes.
From November 26, vehicles will once again be able to access all routes through the town centre, with the exception of O'Connell Street, which will remain closed to traffic until February 16.
During this period, Clare County Council will invite the public, local businesses and visitors to share their views on future access, traffic flow, and potential pedestrianisation options for O'Connell Street through an online survey and in-person consultations.
The online survey will be available on the Clare County Council website from December 8, 2025, to January 4, 2026, while physical copies can be obtained at council buildings including local libraries. In mid-January, the council will also begin a formal Section 38 process, inviting further public submissions.
Clare County Council Director of Service with responsibility for Ennis MD, Jason Murphy, said: "This milestone marks an important and positive moment for the town, as the major construction works, spanning almost two years, comes to an end. Clare County Council wishes to thank the local business community, residents, and visitors for their patience and cooperation throughout the works. The period before and after Christmas is now a huge opportunity to experience O'Connell Street without any vehicular traffic and construction works. It will also allow businesses, shoppers, visitors, and the local community time to provide informed feedback on the potential and any challenges associated with the possible pedestrianisation of the street."
Mayor of Ennis Cllr Mary Howard added: "I encourage everyone, residents, businesses, and visitors, to take part in this important consultation from December 8, 2025. Your feedback will play a vital role in shaping the future of O’Connell Street and ensuring it meets the needs of our community. Together, we can create a vibrant, welcoming town centre that works for all."
