Work is set to resume on a key housing project delivering much-needed homes for people aged over 55 in L'Derry City Centre, following the appointment of a new development partner by Clanmil Housing Association.

The scheme, located on Waterloo Street, will see the transformation of a former office building into 19 modern apartments for active older residents, comprising 14 one-bedroom and five two-bedroom homes. The development is supported by grant funding from the Department for Communities through the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.

Built to Lifetime Homes and Secured by Design standards, the project aims to provide secure, accessible, and energy-efficient homes within walking distance of shops, public services, and transport links.

Welcoming the development, Tony Monaghan, Regeneration Manager at Derry City & Strabane District Council, said: "It is encouraging to see the investment by Clanmil in transforming this prominent site into a modern building which will provide 19 new homes in the heart of the City Centre and add positively to the ongoing regeneration of the area."
