Jacobs Selected By EirGrid For Major Framework

Jacobs has been selected by EirGrid for a five-year Engineering Design, Planning and Project Management Framework, with an option to extend for a further three years.

The agreement will provide a range of technical services to support Shaping Our Electricity Future, EirGrid's national strategy to transform Ireland’s electricity transmission system and deliver on the country’s renewable energy ambitions.

Under the new framework, Jacobs will form an integrated design team for Ireland's Transmission System Operator, delivering end-to-end services in planning, design, and project management for high-voltage transmission infrastructure. This will encompass both overground and underground assets, as well as high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technologies.

Jacobs Executive Vice President Europe Richard Sanderson said: "Reliable, efficient and sustainable electricity transmission systems are central to enabling Ireland’s energy transition. Our integrated design team approach will ensure projects are developed holistically – from early-stage planning and design to delivery – with a focus on system reliability, regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship."

The framework covers a broad scope of services, including engineering design, planning, project management, environmental, and health and safety expertise, to help ensure delivery of Ireland's long-term grid resilience and sustainability goals.

EirGrid's Shaping Our Electricity Future strategy sets out how the national transmission grid will evolve to meet Ireland’s 2030 renewable energy targets, including achieving at least 80% of electricity generation from renewable sources. Jacobs' role under this framework will directly support that vision by helping to deliver sustainable transmission solutions across the grid.

Across Ireland, Jacobs is already supporting several key national infrastructure programs, including the National Transport Authority's BusConnects Dublin and Cork, Irish Rail’s Galway to Portarlington network upgrade, the East Coast Railway Infrastructure Protection Projects, and Uisce Éireann’s strategic planning for sustainable and resilient water services.

Globally, Jacobs plays a major role in advancing energy infrastructure projects that strengthen the reliability and sustainability of power systems. The company is involved in Suedlink in Europe—one of the world’s largest underground high-voltage power cable projects—serves as program manager and owner’s engineer for Xcel Energy’s multi-billion-dollar transmission and distribution reliability program in the U.S., and acts as integrated delivery partner for Australia’s Marinus Link Interconnector, designed to enhance renewable energy security.
