Offsite specialist McAvoy has completed a new modular facility for Leeds City College and Leeds Sixth Form College, part of Luminate Education Group.
The handover also brought to a close a bespoke education programme that enabled students to follow their future study environment from concept through to completion.
The 1,380m² C Block at the Park Lane campus can accommodate 300 learners and provides advanced facilities, including laboratories, prep rooms, study spaces, sports science and massage rooms, changing areas, staff offices and classrooms. Achieving a BREEAM Excellent rating, around 75% of the building was pre-manufactured offsite – including mechanical and electrical services and internal fit-out – before a five-day craning operation positioned the modules. McAvoy also delivered hard landscaping and installed EV charging points.
Students from both colleges took part throughout, beginning with a visit to McAvoy’s Lisburn factory to see the manufacturing process. They later observed the 42-module installation in Leeds, constructed a scale model of a module, and explored their new building through a Virtual Reality demonstration.
Thomas Boyle, Senior Contracts Manager at McAvoy, said: "Delivering this snag free modular building all while supporting students at the colleges who are considering careers in engineering, architecture and design, has been a great process. The students have seen first-hand how the building was delivered, and now it is complete will be able to enjoy the cutting-edge space to continue their studies."
