Uisce Éireann will ramp up its investment in Galway city in the new year as the latest stage of water mains replacement begins west of the city centre.
Crews are scheduled to start on William Street West from Monday, 12 January.
The scheme will replace ageing mains with modern pipes, improving the resilience and reliability of supply for homes and businesses while helping to curb leakage on the network.
Enda Mac Namara, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, said: "Following on from the strong progress made in our programme of mains replacement to the west of Galway city in 2025, we’re delighted to be starting this new phase of works.
"We wish to thank the residents and business owners of the William Street West area for their co-operation and patience while these works are underway."
To deliver the works safely and efficiently, Galway City Council has granted a road closure licence.
While the project is under way on William Street West, traffic will be diverted via the Small Crane, Henry Street, New Street West (eastbound) and St Joseph’s Avenue (westbound).
Uisce Éireann acknowledges the inconvenience caused by road closures and thanks affected road users for their understanding. The closures are necessary to protect crews, road users and the public and to allow the works to proceed as efficiently as possible.
Progress will continue in February with a further phase of mains replacement on Dominic Street.
All works are being delivered by Farrans Construction on behalf of Uisce Éireann
