Road Closure Announced As €24m Maynooth Pipeline Reaches Halfway Mark

Uisce Éireann is advising motorists of an upcoming road closure on the L1015 Kellystown Road in Leixlip to facilitate ongoing works on the Maynooth Transfer Pipeline project.

The stretch between the L1014 Kellystown junction and the R149 will be closed from Tuesday 13 January to Friday 13 March 2026 to allow essential pipelaying to continue. Further temporary closures are expected later in the year, with advance notice to be provided to local communities and road users.

Progress on the scheme remains strong, with around 4.5km of the new pipeline installed so far, marking a key milestone on this significant €24 million infrastructure project.

Speaking about the works, Uisce Éireann's Ciaran Ryan said: "This project represents a major investment in essential wastewater infrastructure for Maynooth and Kilcock, enabling future growth and much-needed new housing. While road closures are unavoidable to safely deliver works of this scale, every effort is being made to minimise disruption. We're delighted to see continued progress on site, with over half of the pipeline now installed, and we thank local residents and road users for their patience and cooperation."

Clearly signposted diversion routes for general traffic and HGVs will be in place during the L1015 closure, with emergency and local access maintained throughout.

The Maynooth Transfer Pipeline comprises a new 9km wastewater pipeline linking the existing Maynooth Wastewater Pump Station to the Leixlip Wastewater Treatment Plant, alongside upgrades to the Maynooth station.

Delivered under Uisce Éireann's Growth and Development Programme, the project will add the wastewater capacity needed to support the delivery of up to 11,500 new homes.

Works are being carried out by Coffey Construction on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed in 2027.
