Uisce Éireann is moving into the next stage of its essential water network upgrade programme in Ballymahon, a project designed to enhance supply reliability and support future regional growth.
The works aim to significantly reduce leakage and modernise the local infrastructure to provide a more secure water source for homes and businesses.
The first phase of the project, which involved upgrading over 5km of watermains along the N55, is now nearing completion. Following this, construction crews will transition to the Newcastle Road area to replace a further 4km of ageing mains.
Dave Murphy, Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, commented on the progress: "We are committed to ensuring Ballymahon and the surrounding areas have a more resilient and reliable water supply for the future. By replacing vulnerable sections of ageing mains, we are significantly reducing leakage and strengthening the network for local homes and businesses. We greatly appreciate the community's patience and cooperation as we carry out these essential works, which will deliver long term benefits for the community."
To facilitate the commissioning of the newly installed infrastructure, customers in Ballymahon and Kilcurry have been advised of potential service interruptions. Low water pressure or temporary supply loss may occur between 9am and 1pm on Wednesday, 4 February 2026. Uisce Éireann has noted that while supply will return gradually as the network recharges, further planned outages will be necessary in the coming weeks and will be communicated to the public in advance.
The project forms part of the utility's National Leakage Reduction Programme. Members of the public who wish to report leaks in the public network can do so via the Uisce Éireann website or by calling 1800 278 278.
