Village Hall and Heritage Centre upgrades, public realm improvements and a native tree-planting scheme will be advanced to secure long-term benefits for Adare and the wider Limerick region.
The Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O'Donovan TD, has announced funding of up to €5.7 million from his Department to ensure the 2027 Ryder Cup leaves a lasting legacy in Adare, across County Limerick and nationally.
Supported works in Adare will include the refurbishment and extension of Adare Village Hall, refurbishment of the Adare Heritage Centre, enhancement of the public realm, and a sustainability initiative centred on large-scale native tree planting.
The legacy programme aims to position Adare as a leading cultural and tourism hub in Limerick and the Mid West, improving the area for residents and visitors during and after the 2027 event. The projects will be delivered in collaboration with Limerick City and County Council.
The Ryder Cup is expected to be among the largest sporting events ever staged in Ireland. A key sustainability measure will see extensive planting of native Irish trees in Adare and across Limerick, which over their lifetime is intended to significantly offset the carbon footprint associated with hosting the tournament.
Speaking today, Minister O'Donovan said: "I am delighted to announce that my Department will provide funding for these legacy projects in the village of Adare. Adare is a beautiful location for the next Ryder Cup and I want to showcase Adare village at its very best for both residents and visitors alike, not just during the event but for many years to come. I am conscious that large scale events can have some short-term impacts for those living in the area and that is why legacy projects such as these are a key part of the Government's policy in relation to the hosting of Major International Sports Events."
Minister of State McConalogue added: "Ensuring a lasting legacy from Major Sporting events is a key priority for the Government, and I am pleased that funding is being provided to ensure that the people of Adare and the wider region will benefit from next year's Ryder Cup, not just in 2027 but for many years to come."
