Uisce Éireann has confirmed that essential infrastructure works are scheduled to begin next week in Donaghmore, Co. Wexford.

The project, which falls under the utility's National Leakage Reduction Programme, involves the decommissioning and replacement of over 1km of ageing water mains situated between Aloha and Skuna Hill.

This capital investment is a priority for the utility, aimed at addressing high leakage rates of treated water and improving the structural integrity of the local network. The contract for the delivery of these works has been awarded to Shareridge, with a projected completion date set for late spring 2026.

The Donaghmore scheme is a component of Uisce Éireann's broader economic and operational objective to reduce national leakage levels to 20%. To achieve this, the semi-state body is committing more than €1 billion in investment through 2029. Such upgrades are viewed as vital for supporting sustainable regional development and ensuring a reliable supply for both residential and commercial consumers.

The project team has committed to a robust communication strategy for the duration of the build, ensuring that all affected parties receive a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned service interruptions.

Beyond immediate local benefits, these works represent a significant move toward modernising Ireland's underground utilities. By replacing vulnerable sections of the network, Uisce Éireann aims to minimise the frequency of disruptive bursts and reduce long-term maintenance costs, thereby strengthening the infrastructure required for the county's continued growth.
