The Department of Finance has opened a public appointment competition to recruit a new Chair for the Northern Ireland Building Regulations Advisory Committee (NIBRAC). This high-profile role offers a construction industry leader the opportunity to influence the development of evidence-based building standards and drive improvements in building design and safety.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to the Committee and coordinating expert advice for the Department. Key duties involve chairing Committee meetings, participating in technical sub-committees, and overseeing the recruitment and assessment of NIBRAC members.
To be eligible for the position, applicants must be chartered professionals, or hold an equivalent status, in one of several specific fields. These include architecture, building surveying, construction, fire safety, or structural engineering. Candidates from building services, engineering, and energy backgrounds, as well as those with experience in building regulation enforcement through local council building control departments, are also encouraged to apply.
Furthermore, all applicants are required to demonstrate at least five years of proven experience in their respective disciplines.
This appointment comes at a critical time for the industry, as NIBRAC plays a vital role in ensuring that Northern Ireland's regulatory framework remains robust, modern, and fit for purpose across all aspects of the built environment.
