MMD Construction has secured a spot as a finalist at the Irish Construction Excellence (ICE) Awards 2026.
The company's work on the Cork University Hospital (CUH) Helipad, Link Bridge, and Paediatric Road Realignment project has been recognised in the Civil Engineering Project Value €10m to €20m category. This achievement represents the third year in a row that MMD Construction projects have reached the final stages of the ICE Awards.
Serving as the Main Contractor and PSCS, MMD Construction delivered a fully compliant helipad that connects directly to the hospital's Emergency Department through a prefabricated link bridge. The scope of the project also included major road realignment works for the paediatric department and significant utility upgrades throughout the CUH campus.
A primary challenge of the build was the requirement to carry out works within a fully operational acute hospital environment. This necessitated meticulous planning and coordination to ensure that emergency access and daily hospital operations remained uninterrupted throughout the construction period.
The completion of the project marks the return of helicopter access to CUH for the first time in more than two decades, providing a major boost to the hospital's emergency response infrastructure. By facilitating direct aerial transfers to the Emergency Department, the new facility is designed to reduce patient transfer times for critical cases across the region. Furthermore, the Paediatric Road Realignment has improved traffic circulation on-site and upgraded infrastructure to accommodate future expansion at the hospital.
MMD Construction has extended its congratulations to all fellow finalists as it looks forward to the Irish Construction Excellence Awards 2026 ceremony.
