A £380,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme at Stangmore Roundabout in Dungannon is set to begin later this week, the Infrastructure Minister has announced.
The work at the A29 junction will start on Saturday 14 March and will include structural patching and full-width resurfacing of the entire roundabout. Short sections of the slip roads towards Moy and Dungannon will also be resurfaced.
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said the investment would improve road conditions for motorists in the area.
She said: "This is a substantial investment in the Dungannon area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents and road users for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."
To allow the work to be carried out safely and to reduce disruption, the scheme will take place during weekends and overnight periods throughout March.
Daytime closures will take place on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 March between 8am and 6pm, and again on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March between 8am and 6pm.
Night-time closures are scheduled for Monday 16, Wednesday 18, Thursday 19 and Friday 20 March between 7pm and 6am, followed by further overnight closures from Monday 23 to Friday 28 March during the same hours.
During these periods the road will be fully closed to through traffic, with signed diversion routes in place. Drivers travelling from Dungannon towards the M1 and Moy will be diverted via Moy Road, Far Circular Road, Killyman Road and Trewmount Road.
Traffic travelling westbound from the M1 towards Dungannon will be diverted from Tamnamore Roundabout via Tamnamore Road, Killyman Road and Far Circular Road, while traffic travelling eastbound from the A4 dual carriageway will be diverted from Granville via Granville Road and Ballygawley Road.
Stangmore Roundabout will remain fully open to traffic throughout St Patrick’s Day on 17 March.
The Department for Infrastructure said the work has been scheduled to minimise disruption, but motorists should expect some delays and allow extra travel time when passing through the area.
Subject to favourable weather conditions, the resurfacing scheme is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 28 March.
