A £406,000 carriageway resurfacing project on Lagmore Avenue in Belfast has begun today, Wednesday 18 March 2026.
The works will cover a 1.25km stretch from Stewartstown Road to the roundabout at Mount Eagles Road and are designed to complement the ongoing Active Travel Scheme in the area.
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said: "This further substantial investment of £406,000 for West Belfast, coupled with improved cycling infrastructure in the area, will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users who travel through this area. These schemes demonstrate my commitment to improving our road and active travel networks which are vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."
To deliver the scheme safely, full daily road closures will be in place on Lagmore Avenue from 9am to 5pm between 18 and 22 March, and again from 30 March to 3 April 2026. In addition, daily lane closures will operate from 9.30am to 4.30pm (Mon–Fri) between 23 and 27 March 2026.
During closures, a signed diversion will route traffic via Stewartstown Road, Lagmore Dale, Lagmore Glen, Lagmore View Road, Mount Eagles Mews and Mount Eagles Road.
The Department has scheduled works and traffic management to reduce disruption as far as possible. While local access will be facilitated, road users should expect delays, allow extra time for journeys and follow all temporary traffic restrictions.
Subject to favourable weather, resurfacing is due to finish by 3 April 2026, with the Active Travel Scheme expected to complete by 18 May 2026. The Department will provide updates if plans change.
