A significant resurfacing scheme is set to begin on Seymour Gardens in Derry, covering a 320-metre stretch of the route. The project will see the application of new asphalt from the junction with Sperrin Park extending toward the junction with Kinsale Park.
Minister Kimmins welcomed the start of the project, stating: “This is a substantial investment for the City of Derry which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents.”
To ensure the works are carried out safely, it will be necessary to implement a series of road and lane closures. The Department has requested that the public adhere to all temporary traffic restrictions and exercise extra caution when driving near the construction site to protect both road users and site workers.
While the Department has planned the traffic management arrangements to keep disruption to a minimum, some delays are anticipated. Provisions have been made for local access; however, commuters are advised to allow extra time for their journeys while the project is underway.
If weather conditions remain favourable, the resurfacing is expected to be substantially complete by 19 June 2026. The Department has committed to keeping the public updated should there be any changes to the projected timeline.
