Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that a £390,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme in Mountfield is scheduled to begin on Monday 18 May 2026.
The extensive project will involve the resurfacing of 1.2 kilometres of road across Main Street, Lenagh Road, Barony Road, and Spring Road within the village.
Minister Kimmins said: "This substantial investment of £390,000 for the village of Mountfield will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."
To ensure the safety of both workers and road users, a series of road and lane closures will be implemented in phases throughout the duration of the project:
Weekday Works: Construction operations will take place Monday to Friday between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm.
Overnight Works: The final resurfacing phase on Main Street will be completed overnight to minimise disruption to local businesses, schools, and commuters.
Diversions: Clearly signed local diversionary routes will be operational during all scheduled road closures.
The Department for Infrastructure has programmed the traffic management arrangements to keep inconvenience to a minimum. While local access will be maintained where possible, motorists are advised to expect minor delays, allow extra time for their journeys, and strictly adhere to all temporary traffic restrictions.
Subject to favourable weather conditions, the infrastructure works are expected to be substantially complete by 6 July 2026. The Department will continue to keep the public updated on any changes to the programme.
