£605,000 Resurfacing Announced For A42 Galgorm Road In Ballymena

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed a £605,000 resurfacing programme for the A42 Galgorm Road in Ballymena, spanning from the Sourhill Road roundabout to Grange Road. Works are scheduled to start on Monday 18 May 2026 and are expected to take 13 weeks.

Minister Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment for the Ballymena area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses, and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

To enable delivery of the scheme safely, temporary traffic management and road closures will be in place from Monday 18 May for approximately 13 weeks, as follows:

• Monday 18 May 2026 to Tuesday 30 June 2026: Temporary traffic management between Cambridge Avenue and Grange Road from 09:15 until 16:30 to facilitate replacement kerbing and footway works.

• Wednesday 1 July 2026 to Thursday 9 July 2026: Galgorm Road closed between Sourhill Road roundabout and Dans Road for carriageway resurfacing. Diversion via Sourhill Road / Dans Road, or alternatively via Old Galgorm Road.

• Monday 27 July 2026 to Monday 17 August 2026: Galgorm Road closed between Dans Road and Grange Road for carriageway resurfacing. Diversion via Old Galgorm Road.

The Department has programmed operations and traffic management to minimise disruption. While local access will be accommodated where possible, road users should expect delays, allow extra time for journeys in the area, and comply with all temporary restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather, the scheme is due to be substantially complete by Monday 17 August 2026. The Department will keep the public informed of any changes.
