A routine Principal Inspection of the Foyle Bridge will begin on Tuesday 14 July 2026.
Inspectors will carry out a close examination of all accessible parts of the structure to confirm its ongoing safety, functionality and durability.
To protect the inspection team and road users, temporary traffic management will be in place at various times, including lane and footway closures. The Department for Infrastructure has scheduled the work for the summer months and will seek to minimise delays, monitoring traffic impacts throughout.
An enforceable 30mph speed limit will apply. Culmore Roundabout's segregated left-turn lane may be closed to avoid merging three lanes into one.
The bridge will operate as normal, with no temporary traffic management in place on the following dates to accommodate major events:
- Mon 20 July – Sat 25 July inclusive – Foyle Cup
- Sat 8 August – The 2026 Relief of Derry celebrations
- Sat 5 Sept – European Triathlon
- Sun 6 Sept – Waterside Half Marathon
Road users are asked for their patience while this essential work is undertaken and should allow extra time for journeys. The Department apologises for any inconvenience caused.
