The Immingham Eastern Ro-Ro Terminal (IERRT), a joint investment by Stena Line and Associated British Ports (ABP) at the Port of Immingham, has reached a significant construction milestone with a ceremonial steel signing to mark the start of marine works.
Keir Mather, Minister for Maritime, Aviation and Decarbonisation, formally signed one of the marine piles alongside guests to signal the next phase of building the infrastructure for the new freight ferry terminal, which is due to open in 2028.
The scheme forms a central plank of Stena Line’s UK ports and terminals development programme, aimed at boosting capacity and resilience across its network and enhancing trade links between Britain and the continent.
Carl-Johan Hellner, COO of Stena Line Ports & Terminals, said: "This new terminal represents a major investment in the future of freight transport through the Humber and demonstrates the confidence we have in the region's long-term economic potential.
"We have seen sustained growth in customer demand across our freight network, and the development of this terminal is a direct response to that demand. It will provide the capacity, efficiency and flexibility needed to support future growth while strengthening vital trade links between the UK and Europe."
Keir Mather, Aviation, Maritime and Decarbonisation Minister, said: "This investment will support exactly the kind of ambitious infrastructure project we need to grow the economy, create hundreds of jobs, and strengthen the UK’s maritime sector.

The milestone was marked on site with representatives from freight businesses and Dragados, the project’s main contractor. In addition to underpinning employment in companies that will use the terminal, construction will generate around 700 jobs, with about 200 permanent roles expected once the facility is fully operational.
