Uisce Éireann is set to upgrade ageing water mains in Ballycommon to improve reliability and reduce interruptions for local homes and businesses.

The project will cover two stretches of the network: from Maryville B&B to just outside Ballycommon village, and between the Y Junction at Carrick and the R495 to Tír na Nóg in Ballycommon. In total, 1.6km of modern pipework will be installed to strengthen the local system and cut down on bursts and leaks.

The current mains have been prone to failures, causing supply disruptions and the loss of treated drinking water. Replacing these sections aims to secure a steadier service for the area.

Welcoming the scheme, Dave Murphy of Uisce Éireann said: "Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on. By focusing on delivering a more reliable supply, we’re helping to build a stronger, more resilient water service for the people of Ballycommon now and for generations to come."

Works will begin in late July and will include installing new water service connections from the public main on the road to customers’ property boundaries and linking them to individual supplies.

Shareridge Ltd will deliver the project on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected in Autumn 2026.
