Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed a £670,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme for the A5 Victoria Road at Leckpatrick, Ballymagorry, due to begin on Monday 27 July 2026.

The project will see 1.1 kilometres of asphalt resurfacing from 120 metres south of the junction with the U1824 Leckpatrick Road to a point 150 metres south of the junction with the U1822 Lowry's Lane.

Minister Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment for the Derry and Strabane Council area which will deliver significant benefits for road users travelling on the A5 route and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local community groups and businesses for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

To enable the works to be carried out safely, a lane closure and diversion for southbound traffic on the A5 will operate from Monday 27 July 2026 until Friday 14 August 2026, between 08:00 and 18:00 each day.

The signed diversion route will use the B48 Duncastle Road, B49 Berryhill Road and B49 Woodend Road.

The Department has programmed the works and traffic management to reduce disruption. While steps have been taken to accommodate local access and Translink bus services throughout the scheme, road users should expect delays, allow extra time for journeys and comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.
