Uisce Éireann has completed the opening phase of a €3.5 million project to modernise Mitchelstown's wastewater network, an investment intended to underpin future social and economic growth in the town, including the delivery of much-needed new homes in the North Cork area south of the Galtees.

The works will expand treatment capacity and provide more reliable, sustainable and higher-quality wastewater services for residents and businesses. This will help create the conditions for Mitchelstown to develop, supporting housing, community services and local employment.

The initial phase focused on upgrading the gravity sewer main along Clonmel Road. The next stage will see upgrades to the existing wastewater pumping station.

Uisce Eireann Programme Manager, Christine Power is pleased with the progress to date. "We are delighted to have delivered the first phase of works in this vital project and to be facilitating social and economic growth in the town. This is the first of a series of wastewater projects that are set to be undertaken in Mitchelstown over the coming years, highlighting our commitment to the development of the town".

Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is delivering the project on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with overall completion expected in late 2027.
