Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed a £650,000 carriageway resurfacing programme for the A55 Belvoir Road in Belfast, beginning on Tuesday 11 August 2026.

The scheme will cover the stretch between Newtownbreda Road and Saintfield Road and is scheduled to run until Tuesday 6 October 2026 to reduce disruption during peak travel times.

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said: "This investment will deliver meaningful benefits for road users and demonstrates my ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving our strategic road network, which is vital for supporting local communities and the regional economy. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and those travelling through the area for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

Traffic management will be in place throughout the works, including:

- 11–31 August: continuous lane closures to enable advance civil engineering activity.

- Full closures from 7pm on Saturday 22 August to 6am on Monday 24 August, and from 7pm on Saturday 29 August to 6am on Monday 31 August.

- Additional full closures from 6am on Sunday 6 September to 6am on Monday 7 September, and from 6am on Sunday 13 September to 6am on Monday 14 September.

- Further restrictions may be required at other times to protect road users and the workforce.

When closures are in place, a signed diversion will operate via Purdysburn Road, Beechill Road and Saintfield Road. Drivers travelling near Belvoir Road should allow extra time and follow the diversion signage.

The Department has planned the works and traffic controls to limit inconvenience, but some delays are unavoidable. All road users are asked to observe temporary restrictions for everyone's safety.

Subject to favourable weather, substantial completion is expected by Tuesday 6 October 2026. The Department will advise the public of any significant changes to the schedule.
