A €3.8 million programme to modernise Ballaghaderreen's wastewater treatment plant has begun this month, strengthening performance and resilience while protecting the local environment.

Delivered by Uisce Éireann, the scheme will upgrade key assets at the facility to improve day-to-day operations, bolster capacity to handle heavy rainfall, and maintain compliance with environmental standards.

The works include a new storm tank, enhancements to the treatment process, upgrades to pumping infrastructure, and improved monitoring and control systems. Collectively, these measures are intended to increase reliability and efficiency while continuing to safeguard local waterways and the wider environment.

Conway Engineering will carry out the upgrade on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected in Autumn 2027.
