Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed work is under way on a £550,000 shared footway and cycleway along the B158 Stiles Way in Antrim, with construction beginning on Monday 10 August 2026.

The scheme forms part of the Department's commitment to expand active travel infrastructure and improve accessibility for people walking and cycling.

The project will run for approximately 480 metres from the Stiles Way Roundabout on the A26 Ballymena Road, pass beneath the railway bridge and link via a ramp to the Springfarm Footbridge.

A new toucan crossing will be installed on the eastern side of the Stiles Way Roundabout, connecting to a second toucan crossing on the southern side at the Ballymena Road entrance to provide a continuous, safer route for pedestrians and cyclists.

Minister Kimmins said: "I am pleased that the new footway/cycleway being delivered in Antrim will greatly enhance provision for cyclists and pedestrians. It forms part of my commitment to increasing opportunities for active travel.

"I would like to thank the public and residents in advance for their cooperation and ask that they comply with all temporary traffic restrictions while these works are being completed."

Temporary traffic management will operate on the B158 Stiles Way from 10 August 2026 for 18 weeks.

The Department has scheduled the works and traffic measures to limit disruption, but road users should expect some delays and allow extra time for journeys through the area.

All dates are subject to favourable weather conditions. Works will be delivered in line with current health and safety requirements, with safe systems of work in place for staff and contractors.
