The new National Archives Repository on Bishop Street has been formally opened, marking the completion of a landmark conservation and construction project in central Dublin.
The ceremony was attended by Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O'Donovan TD and Minister of State with responsibility for the OPW Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, underscoring the national significance of this investment in Ireland’s archival infrastructure.
As main contractor, Duggan Brothers delivered a complex conversion of an existing warehouse into a purpose-built, state-of-the-art archival repository, while the National Archives remained fully operational throughout the construction programme. The scheme encompassed major structural interventions, specialist climate-controlled storage environments, upgraded fire protection systems and infrastructure designed to accommodate future expansion.
The completed facility will safeguard millions of Ireland’s most important historical records, significantly increase storage capacity and support generations of researchers, historians and the wider public.
Duggan Brothers expressed pride in contributing to a project of enduring national value and thanked the Office of Public Works, the design team, project partners and the dedicated site team whose expertise and commitment enabled its successful delivery.
