£318,000 Resurfacing Set For A28 Customs Station Roundabout And Carnbane Way

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed a £318,000 carriageway resurfacing programme covering the A28 Customs Station Roundabout, its adjacent side roads, and a 300-metre section of Carnbane Way towards the Fiveways roundabout. The scheme is due to get under way on Sunday 6 September 2026.

The Infrastructure Minister said: "This is a substantial investment for the Newry area which will deliver significant benefits for local businesses, residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Newry area. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Saturday 19 September 2026. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

To facilitate delivery of the scheme safely, overnight road closures will be in place from Sunday 6 September to Friday 18 September 2026, between 8pm and 6am each night.

Diversion routes will be signed as follows:

Diversion 1: A1 Carnbane Way, A1 Belfast Road, A1 Newry by-pass, A1 Newry by-pass on-slip (south bound), A1 Newry by-pass dual carriageway (south bound), A1 Newry by-pass off slip road (south bound), A25 Camlough Road, A1 Craigmore Way, A1 Armagh Road, A1 Newry by-pass on-slip road (north bound), A1 Newry by-pass dual carriageway (north bound), A1 Newry by-pass off slip road (north bound), A1 Newry by-pass slip road (north bound)

Diversion 2: U5160 Shepherds Way, A27 Tandragee Road.

The Department has scheduled the works and traffic management to minimise disruption and will accommodate local access where possible, but some delays are expected.
