Designer Group Progresses Critical Infrastructure Work Across Heathrow Airport

Construction News Image

Designer Group is working on 10 separate schemes across Heathrow, covering essential infrastructure and passenger-facing improvements at one of the world's busiest aviation hubs.

Handling more than 80 million passengers annually, Heathrow is the UK's busiest airport. Since first commencing work there in 2017, Designer Group has strengthened its expertise in delivering engineering solutions within live operational settings, coordinating with multiple stakeholders to minimise disruption to airport activities.

A flagship element of the programme is the Virtual Control Facility, which provides a state-of-the-art backup to the airport's control tower.

Additional projects include upgrades to staff security screening in Terminal 5; the full MEP fit-out of two new staff and vehicle control posts; office refurbishments; installation of pre-conditioned air units at aircraft stands; airline lounge fit-outs; and ongoing MEP condition and validation surveys.

Delivering within a live airport environment requires meticulous planning, stringent safety measures and careful coordination with numerous parties. Designer Group's team is experienced in highly regulated, security-sensitive settings where maintaining operational continuity is critical.

The breadth of work now underway highlights Designer Group's capability to deliver complex engineering solutions across the aviation sector. With extensive experience in live environments, the company remains a trusted partner for clients seeking safe, reliable and efficient delivery in operationally critical facilities.
