GRAHAM has announced a key step forward in the Cambridge Halls student accommodation project after receiving approval from the Building Safety Regulator to advance the first phase of construction on the scheme, a partnership between Unite Students and Manchester Metropolitan University.

With the former halls now demolished and structural groundworks in progress, the project has moved into its next stage. The purpose-built accommodation will deliver 2,302 modern, sustainable student bedrooms at the heart of the university campus.

Stephen Van Den Hoek, Regional Director at GRAHAM, said: "Achieving Gateway 2 approval for Phase 1 is an important milestone and reflects the strength of collaboration between the client partners and wider design team.

"The Gateway approval process requires a rigorous and detailed approach, and GRAHAM’s extensive experience in successfully managing projects through these requirements has enabled the team to work closely together in progressing Phase 1 to this point.

"Having completed demolition and started structural groundworks, we are pleased to be advancing the scheme while continuing to work through the remaining requirements for full Gateway 2 approval. We look forward to maintaining this collaborative approach as the development progresses."

The scheme forms part of Manchester Metropolitan University's wider campus transformation and will be delivered in two phases. The first 1,101-bed phase is expected to open for the 2029/30 academic year, with the second phase, comprising 1,201 beds, following in the subsequent year.
