Bord Gáis Energy has announced increases to its residential electricity and gas prices, with the changes coming into effect on 9 October 2026.

The energy provider said the increases reflect sustained rises in the cost of supplying energy, including higher network charges, continued volatility in wholesale energy markets and wider inflationary pressures.

A typical residential electricity customer will see their bill increase by 8.8%, or €14.75 per month, while a typical residential gas customer will face a 9.3% increase, equivalent to €11.67 per month.

For a typical dual-fuel household, the overall increase will be 9.1%, or €26.42 per month.

The changes also take into account a reduction in the Public Service Obligation (PSO) levy on electricity bills from 1 October, as announced by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU).

Catherine Lonergan, Director of Customer and Commercial at Bord Gáis Energy, said: "We recognise that this announcement will be unwelcome for customers and increasing prices is never a decision taken lightly. Global conflicts resulting in higher wholesale gas costs, together with rising network charges, mean a price increase is now necessary. This is our first gas price increase in four years, and we continue to offer the lowest gas standing charge in the market."

She added: "We remain focused on delivering value for customers with Smart plans, My Insights tool and great solar offers all helping to reduce energy bills. We’re investing in the capabilities, innovation and infrastructure to support Ireland's energy transition."

Ms Lonergan also urged customers who may struggle with the increases to seek support.

"We encourage anyone experiencing financial difficulty to contact us so we can work with them to find the most appropriate support, such as flexible payment arrangements or access to our Energy Support Fund."

Under the new rates, residential gas customers will see their unit rate increase by 10.6%, while the standing charge will rise by 7%.

Electricity customers will see their unit rate increase by 9.1%, with the standing charge rising by 7.2%.

Bord Gáis Energy said it has a range of supports available to customers, including flexible payment arrangements, prepay and Level Pay options, a dedicated arrears support team and access to its Energy Support Fund.
