Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed a £557,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on the A2 York Street, Belfast, will begin on Friday 18 September 2026.

The project will extend for around 800 metres, running from the junction with Brougham Street to just beyond the junction with Limestone Road.

Infrastructure Minister Kimmins said: "This substantial investment of £557,000 for North Belfast will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users who travel through this area and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

To facilitate the works, four consecutive weekend road closures will be in place:

- 9.00pm Friday 18 September 2026 to 6.00pm Sunday 20 September 2026

- 6.00am Saturday 26 September 2026 to 6.00pm Sunday 27 September 2026

- 9.00pm Friday 2 October 2026 to 6.00pm Sunday 4 October 2026

- 6.00am Saturday 10 October 2026 to 6.00pm Sunday 11 October 2026

In addition, lane closures will operate on York Street throughout the duration of the scheme, commencing on Monday 21 September 2026.

During closures, a signed diversion will run via Brougham Street and North Queen Street. Road users are asked to follow all temporary traffic restrictions and drive with care near the works.

The Department has programmed operations and traffic management to minimise disruption. While steps have been taken to accommodate local access, delays should be expected and additional travel time is advised.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works are expected to be completed by Friday 16 October 2026. The Department will keep the public informed of any changes.
