Uisce Éireann will start work this month on a major upgrade to Sligo Town’s water network, ensuring the area has the essential infrastructure to support future homes, businesses and community development.

The scheme involves installing more than 800 metres of new water mains along the Western Distributor Road. Once in place, the enhancement will reinforce the local network, increase capacity and help meet demand as the town expands in the coming years.

Uisce Éireann's Programme Manager Patricia Lowry explained: "This investment will strengthen the water network in Sligo Town and help ensure there is sufficient capacity to support future housing and development in the area. By delivering this infrastructure now, we are helping to prepare Sligo for future growth while continuing to provide reliable water services for existing homes and businesses."

The works form part of Uisce Éireann's Accelerated Growth Programme, a targeted investment initiative designed to deliver additional water and wastewater capacity to enable housing and sustainable development in communities across Ireland.

Construction will be carried out on Uisce Éireann’s behalf by Farrans, with completion expected in winter 2026.

To facilitate the project, temporary traffic lights will operate at points along the route. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times, and work areas will be kept as short as possible to minimise disruption.
