West Belfast MLA Órlaithí Flynn has welcomed the overhaul of the disused Visteon manufacturing site on Blacks Road, following a £30 million investment that has provided much-needed social and affordable housing for local families.

The Black's Gate project has turned the once-vacant site into a thriving neighbourhood, comprising 195 social homes and 48 affordable properties, along with play areas and wider community and recreational facilities.

Speaking about the development, Órlaithí Flynn MLA said: "The transformation of the Black’s Gate site is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when we invest in high-quality social and affordable housing and put the needs of local communities at the heart of development.

"For many years this was a large, vacant former manufacturing site. Today, it has been completely transformed into a welcoming community, providing families with high-quality, secure homes as well as play facilities and attractive spaces for residents to enjoy.

"The £30 million investment represents a significant commitment to West Belfast. Most importantly, these are homes that respond directly to local need and will make a real difference to families who need a safe and secure place to call home.

"We know there remains a huge demand for social housing across West Belfast, and developments like Black's Gate show the importance of continuing to invest in new homes that are genuinely affordable and meet the needs of our communities.

"I want to congratulate Radius and everyone involved in transforming this site and creating a new community here on Blacks Road. This is a significant investment in the future of West Belfast and a development that local families can be proud of."
