Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed a £600,000 carriageway resurfacing project on Tates Avenue in Belfast, due to begin today, 21 September.

The scheme will extend from Lisburn Road to Boucher Road, a distance of 880 metres.

Initial preparatory activity will commence on 21 September. The main resurfacing will then be delivered over two weekends: from Friday 2 October to Monday 5 October, and on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, when road closures will be in operation.

Minister Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment for the Belfast area and will deliver significant benefits for residents, businesses and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to maintaining and improving our road network. Well-maintained roads support safer and more comfortable journeys, and this scheme will help ensure that Tates Avenue continues to serve the local community effectively for years to come."

To enable safe delivery, traffic management measures, road closures and temporary lane restrictions will be in place. During closures, a diversion will operate via Lisburn Road, Stockmans Lane and Boucher Road. Local access for residents and businesses will be maintained where practicable.

Road users are advised to allow additional time for journeys and to follow all temporary traffic arrangements. While the Department has planned the works to minimise disruption, some delays may be unavoidable.

Subject to favourable weather, the scheme is expected to be substantially complete by Thursday 22 October 2026.
