Construction is due to start this week on a significant water infrastructure scheme in Enfield designed to reinforce the town's supply and create extra capacity to support future housing and sustainable development.

The €20 million programme will bolster the local network, catering for a growing population while improving the resilience and performance of the existing system.

Planned to underpin social and economic growth, including upcoming residential development, the project will increase the supply capacity of the current network, enhance performance and ease pressure on infrastructure in the area.

From this week, crews will begin installing almost 8 kilometres of new water main along the L5028 and L1007 roads, including a crossing beneath the M4 motorway, with the final section running along the R148 to the Lidl roundabout in Enfield.

To carry out the works safely, traffic management will be introduced in phases and planned to minimise disruption. The first phase will require a temporary road closure in the Newtown area of Kildare on the L5028-1 (Kilbride Road) until December. Diversions will be in place, with access maintained for local residents, businesses and emergency services. Uisce Éireann has thanked the community for its patience while the works are undertaken.

The project will be delivered in phases by Coffey Construction Ltd. on behalf of Uisce Éireann and is scheduled for completion by the end of Q3 2027.
