Uisce Éireann is set to begin works to renew old and damaged water mains on Cross Avenue in Blackrock, Co Dublin, to deliver a more reliable supply for the community.

Crews will install over 764 metres of new, modern pipes between the Booterstown Avenue/Cross Avenue junction and the N31/Cross Avenue junction. The upgrade will strengthen the local network and help cut interruptions for homes and businesses.

The existing mains have been prone to bursts and leaks, leading to supply disruptions and the loss of treated drinking water. Increasing capacity through this project will also support future growth and development in the area, including new housing.

Welcoming the scheme, Mark O'Duffy of Uisce Éireann said the investment will reduce leakage and give customers in Blackrock greater confidence in their supply over the long term. He said: "Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on. These improvements make a difference every single day, in every tap, home and throughout the community. By focusing on delivering a more reliable supply, we’re helping to build a stronger, more resilient water service for the people of Blackrock, now and for generations to come."

Works are due to start in late September and will include installing new water service connections from the public main in the road to customers' property boundaries and linking them to the customers' supply.

GMC Utilities Ltd will deliver the project on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected in early 2027.
