Uisce Éireann is set to begin upgrading water infrastructure in Shannonvale, Clonakilty, to improve supply reliability and cut leakage.

The project will replace old and damaged mains across key routes including the R600, N71, L4032 and L4031.

In total, 6.5km of modern pipes will be installed to strengthen the local network, tackling frequent bursts and leaks that have caused outages and wasted treated drinking water.

Welcoming the project, Jack Cronin, Programme Manager, Uisce Éireann, said: "Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on. These improvements make a difference every single day, in every tap, home and throughout the community. By focusing on delivering a more reliable supply, we’re helping to build a stronger, more resilient water service for the people of Clonakilty, now and for generations to come."

Works due to start next week include installing new service connections from the public main in the roadway to customers’ property boundaries and linking them to individual supplies. Ward and Burke will deliver the scheme on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected by May 2027.

To facilitate the works and protect crews and the public, a temporary road closure will be in place on the L4031 from Monday 26 October until Friday 27 November. A signposted diversion will operate, with access maintained at all times for local and emergency traffic.
