A £525,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on the C572 Aileach Road in Derry has gotten underway, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced.

The project will renew approximately 730 metres of carriageway, beginning at the Aileach Road Roundabout, to improve driving conditions for local residents and road users.

Minister Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment of £525,000 for Derry City which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses, and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

To deliver the works safely, lane closures will be required throughout the construction period. Road users are asked to follow all temporary traffic management measures and drive with extra care near the site.

The Department has arranged operations and traffic management to minimise disruption and will accommodate local access where possible. However, some delays are expected; motorists should allow additional time for journeys and comply with all temporary restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather, the scheme is scheduled to be substantially completed by Friday 30 October 2026. The Department will keep the public updated on any changes.
