The Strabane Public Realm Scheme is advancing steadily as part of wider investment in the town centre.

FP McCann Ltd is the principal contractor, led by project manager Ryan Hanna, with Derry City & Strabane District Council as the client and Tetra Tech acting as the integrated consultant team (ICT).

The project will revamp key streets with high‑quality paving, improved pedestrian facilities, upgraded street lighting, new street furniture and enhanced public spaces. Works are being delivered in carefully planned phases to minimise disruption for local businesses, residents and visitors, while maintaining access wherever possible.

Activity to date has centred on Railway Street, where significant progress has been made on excavation, underground infrastructure and paving. Sections of the finished public realm are already visible. New silver concrete paving has been laid at several locations along Railway Street, offering an early glimpse of the completed streetscape. In addition, areas of natural granite paving proposed for the wider town centre have been installed outside the Library on Railway Street, allowing people to see the quality and appearance of materials that will be used across the scheme and providing a clear indication of the eventual look for Strabane's core streets.

Railway Street will remain the main focus of construction until mid‑November, with paving, infrastructure and finishing works continuing over the coming weeks. Preparatory and ancillary works are also due to begin on Market Street during the week commencing 21 September, helping to facilitate future phases of the programme.

Looking ahead, works will continue to roll out in phases across the town centre. As more sections are completed, residents and visitors can expect benefits including high‑quality granite and concrete paving, improved accessibility and pedestrian movement, enhanced public spaces and streetscape, upgraded street lighting and street furniture, and a more attractive, vibrant town centre.

On completion, the Strabane Public Realm Scheme will deliver a modern, accessible and welcoming environment that reflects the character of the town and supports businesses, residents and visitors for years to come.
