Elemente, located at Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier, was named a winner at the 2026 International Design & Architecture Awards, hosted by design et al in London.
The concept was created by Robert Angell Design International, with McCue acting as main contractor on the end-to-end interior fit-out.
McCue congratulated Robert Angell’s team, Rhubarb Hospitality Collection and URW, noting that while design awards rightly spotlight the designers, successful outcomes rely on building to the exacting vision and standards set out at the outset.
Situated on the first floor of the Lee building along the waterfront promenade in HafenCity, the venue spans more than 1,300 m², incorporating an all-day restaurant, bar and terrace. The client was URW (Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield) and the operator is Rhubarb Hospitality Collection. Bespoke joinery was manufactured at McCue’s workshop in Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim. The restaurant opened on 30 April 2026.
The interior takes inspiration from four elements — fire, water, earth and air — blending organic materials with refined lines. It also nods to Hamburg’s history; in 1827 the city became the first in Europe to recognise the independence of South American states, a connection the restaurant extends across Latin America through its design, menu and bar.
The Hamburg project adds to McCue’s growing European portfolio, including Urban Outfitters flagships on the Champs-Élysées in Paris and in Madrid, Lille and Hamburg, as well as Anthropologie at Coal Drops Yard in London. The company says clients choose the Carrickfergus-based contractor for international projects because quality, programme and cost certainty are maintained regardless of location.
