Budget 2027 will provide €9.4bn to expand homebuilding and the wider infrastructure required for a growing population, a Fine Gael TD has said.
Micheál Carrigy, chair of the Oireachtas Housing Committee, said the allocation announced today by Fine Gael leader, Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris, will further increase supply and includes €5.6bn in capital funding to maintain momentum.
"The Irish economy is strong, and we need to make sure people feel that in their everyday lives. For young people and families, it starts with a home of their own," Deputy Carrigy said.
According to the party, €3bn is earmarked for social housing delivery, including 11,250 new-build social homes. More than €1bn will fund thousands of starter homes via a range of affordability measures, alongside the Help to Buy scheme.
A further €225m is being assigned to the housing infrastructure investment fund, while €350m will support the regeneration of urban areas. The Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund will back a programme of investment across every local authority in the State.
"Fine Gael's message is 'Build More, Deliver Better'. We are removing the barriers that stand in the way of building the homes people need, with faster delivery, less bureaucracy and better value for every euro," he said.
" A total of €2.2bn will continue to support the social housing needs of 110,000 households, and over €360m will address specific housing needs, including adaptation grants and the retrofitting of additional social homes. Emergency supports for people facing homelessness will continue, with targeted supports for families.
"We want people who work hard to get ahead, not just get by. For too many young people, the lack of supply has made owning their own home feel out of reach.
"We will do this in a responsible way that protects the public finances for the longer term. Fine Gael is building more and delivering better."
