People living and working in Orchard Lane, Birr, are now benefiting from a steadier water supply after Uisce Éireann finished a watermain replacement scheme in the area. The works, which involved swapping out almost 200 metres of old mains, have strengthened the local network, reduced leakage and will provide a more dependable service for homes and businesses.
Welcoming the completion of the works, Dave Murphy, Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "This project is a good example of how targeted investment can make a real difference for local communities. By replacing ageing watermains in Orchard Lane, we have strengthened the network, reduced leakage and improved the reliability of water supplies for local homes and businesses.
"These improvements will help protect valuable, treated drinking water and support a more resilient water network for the community for many years to come."
The project forms part of ongoing efforts to tackle leaks across more than 65,000 km of underground pipes nationwide, many of which are difficult to locate and repair. According to Uisce Éireann, national leakage has been reduced from 49% in 2014 to 36% today.
