NI Water is set to undertake pipeline connection works on Newry Road in Mayobridge as part of a wider programme to upgrade the local water supply network.
The scheme will affect a short section between the junctions with Aughnagon Road and Edenmore Road. A lane closure will begin on Monday 19 October, ahead of a full road closure scheduled for the Halloween school break to minimise disruption.
Speaking about the work and the associated traffic measures, Zama Dilworth, NI Water Project Manager, said: "This essential work will connect the new Aughnagon Water Booster Pumping Station, which is being built off the Newry Road, to the existing watermains network. Once commissioned later this year, the new booster station will enhance the water supply network, improving resilience for homes and businesses in the Mayobridge area.
"To facilitate the full programme of pipeline and connection works in the safest possible manner, traffic management will be implemented in three stages:
"From Monday 19th October, a lane closure with temporary traffic lights will be in place around the working area for up to six days. The lights will be manually controlled at peak times on weekdays to help reduce traffic delays.
"Newry Road will then be closed to through traffic between its junctions with Aughnagon Road and Edenmore Road from Monday 26th October for up to five days. The primary diversion for motorists, especially HGVs, will be signposted via Rathfriland Road and Hilltown Road, with a secondary diversion signposted via Chapel Hill and Derryleckagh Road. Access to all business and residential properties will be maintained from each side of the working area.
"From Saturday 31st October, traffic management will revert to a lane closure with temporary traffic lights to complete the works. NI Water and our project team from GEDA and WSP thank residents and motorists for their patience and cooperation while this essential work is carried out."
