Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed a £238,000 carriageway resurfacing project at Leyland Road Roundabout and along Leyland Road in Ballycastle will get under way on Monday 19 October 2026. The scheme will renew around 0.3km of carriageway, including the roundabout and its approaches and exits.
Minister Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment for the Ballycastle area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses, and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."
To deliver the works safely, temporary traffic management will be in place. Daily road closures are scheduled from 09:00 to 16:45 between Monday 19 October and Thursday 29 October 2026.
During the closures, signed diversion routes will operate via:
- Diversion 1: Leyland Road – Coleraine Road – Church Road – Straid Road – Whitepark Road – Leyland Road and vice versa.
- Diversion 2: Market Street – Castle Street – Coleraine Road – Church Road – Ramoan Rd and vice versa.
The Department has planned operations and traffic management to minimise inconvenience, but drivers should expect some delays, allow additional time and comply with all temporary restrictions.
Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works are expected to be substantially complete by Friday 29 October 2026. The Department will keep the public informed of any changes. For more information on this and other improvement schemes, visit Trafficwatch NI: www.trafficwatchni.com/twni/
