PJ Hegarty has been named winner of the Supreme Safety Award — the top accolade at the All-Ireland Occupational Safety Awards — and also picked up the Healthy Workplace Award and the Consistent High Achiever Award. The trio of honours was announced at a gala at the Great Southern Killarney.

Organised by the National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) and the Northern Ireland Safety Group (NISG), the awards celebrate excellence in occupational health and safety. For PJ Hegarty, the recognition reflects a company-wide drive, in partnership with its supply chain, to foster safer and healthier workplaces.

Sponsored by Irving Oil Whitegate Refinery, the Supreme Safety Award recognises organisations that demonstrate consistently high or continuously improving performance over several years, or that make an exceptional contribution to occupational safety, health and welfare. Securing the overall prize marks a notable milestone for the contractor and all those upholding standards across its projects and operations.

From site teams and project managers to support services, EHS professionals and senior leaders, the company credits a shared responsibility for safety. The accolades highlight the everyday vigilance and collaboration across the business.

Brian Mooney, Director, said: "For me, these awards are first and foremost recognition of our people. They reflect the commitment shown every day across PJ Hegarty to looking out for one another and creating safer, healthier workplaces. A huge thank you and congratulations to everyone across the company. This is an achievement we can all be very proud of."

The Healthy Workplace Award, sponsored by Healthy Ireland, recognises employers who embed health and wellbeing within their safety approach — assessing staff needs, encouraging participation in initiatives and backing this with visible leadership and clear communication.

The Consistent High Achiever Award is presented to organisations that have achieved a Distinction Award, or higher, in each of the previous five years, acknowledging sustained excellence by teams throughout the business.

Sinead Gaines, EHS Regional Manager, said: "We're honoured to receive both the Supreme Award and the Healthy Workplace Award at this year's NISO Awards. A positive safety culture benefits everyone, and moments like this don't come around too often. PJ Hegarty treats safety as a core value embedded in all our operations and we're very appreciative of this recognition for our EHS staff, project teams and supply chain partners, who work with us every day towards our shared safety objective: 'Everyone goes home safe'."

PJ Hegarty expressed thanks to employees and supply chain partners for their role in the achievement and for their continued commitment to safeguarding the health and wellbeing of colleagues across all workplaces.
