€10.8m Library Development At Tralee Campus

The Institute of Technology in Tralee (IT Tralee) has announced details of a major €10.8 million infrastructure development on campus.

Work has now commenced on a new state of the art library facility which will cover three floors and 3,529 square metres. The library building is expected to be finished by early 2009.

McNamara’s are the appointed contractors and ARUP and Michael Punch and Partners are the Consultant Engineers. ABK Architects are the architects on this project.

Speaking today, Michael Carmody, President of IT, Tralee said: “This €10.8 million investment is a sign that IT, Tralee is investing in the future. We are an Institute with ambition and a long term strategic vision and this latest state of the art development is a physical manifestation of our ambition.

“We have always aimed to provide first class facilities to our students and staff and this new library building will provide those studying and working on campus with a facility that we can all be proud of.”

The new library building will accommodate 446 reader spaces in total and a computer area with 100 PCs. There will be four Group Project/Meeting rooms with computer access available to staff and students and a quiet study room with 50 spaces.

A separate Project Room will also have 50 spaces and a Reading Room will be made available when the library is closed and will be in a position to cater for 86 students and 35 PCs. The library building will have additional features such as a User Education Room, an Audio Visual Room, an Assistive Technology Room for learners with Special needs and areas for journals, official publications and an early childhood book collection area.

This €10.8 million development is the latest in a series of infrastructure developments in IT, Tralee, including a Creche currently under construction and the recently completed GAA and Astroturf pitches.
