More than 160 people are expected to lose their jobs at Atlas Aluminium's Limerick plant as strikes continue for the 10th consecutive day.

The workers have continued to man a 24-hour picket line at the Dock Road plant, as part of a row over pay and alleged unfair treatment of foreign workers.

Management had warned the 163 workers that they would be forced to close the facility if the strike was not brought to a close. However, unions say the staff are not willing to resume their jobs under the current wage conditions.

The Labour Relations Commission is currently working alongside the employees to negotiate a severance package, and SIPTU and the TEEU are also advising their members to accept the deal, as they believe it is the best that can be achieved.
