One hundred jobs will be lost as South Midland Construction (SMC) goes into liquidation.
The building and engineering firm has filed for liquidation to the High Court after the loss of major contracts has left the firm with €5 million in debts.
The SMC Group, controlled by Dublin businessman Phelim Moylan, has been in business for over 40 years with annual revenues in excess of €70 million. Profits reached over €5 million in 2005.
The firm has worked on a range of major projects for multinational firms, local authorities and state bodies.
